TASER Shockwave

Area Denial and Force Protection System

The TASER® ShockwaveTM system is the first generation of new TASER Remote Area Denial (TRAD) technology. Shockwave devices integrate TASER’s field-proven Neuro Muscular Incapacitation (NMI) technology into the first anti-personnel area-target system capable of not only denying personnel, but also incapacitating personnel with reversible effects.

With the push of a button at a stand-off distance of up to 100 meter, the Shockwave unit deploys multiple standard TASER cartridges that are oriented across an area arc.  Full area coverage is provided to instantaneously incapacitate multiple personnel within that region.

The Shockwave system is designed to be fully modular, allowing the end user complete flexibility to deploy as needed to achieve the desired objective. Multiple Shockwave units can be stacked together (like building blocks) either horizontally or vertically in order to extend area coverage or vertically to allow for multiple salvo engagements.  Configurations can be tailored to yield a scaleable defense in depth with overlapping fields of fire when target opportunities may be layers deep or risk profiles dictate multiple event possibilities.

To continue the theme of modularity, Shockwave units may also be vehicle mounted or daisy-chained.  With up to 12 separate units per control box, the Shockwave system allows for an optimized response to any situation, independent of specific terrain, emplacements, obstacles, or threat profiles.

The baseline Shockwave unit is a command activated, 6-shot device that covers a 20-degree arc.  When activated, the remote control box will initiate the simultaneous discharge of cartridges with 5 seconds of delivered TASER NMI.  By activating a control box mounted re-energize button, additional 5-second exposures are commanded for all expended cartridges without discharging subsequent cartridges.  This capability will ensure safety and situation control until arrival of the of an apprehension team.

When deployed in a stacked configuration, each activation of the fire control button commands the array to sequentially fire rows of TASER cartridges via a smart addressing system.  As a protective measure when waves of target sets are encountered, additional 5‑second exposures are administered to already expended rows with each firing.  Shockwave deployment keeps previously targeted personnel down and incapacitated while subsequent target sets are engaged – a truly scalable defense in depth capability.

Versatility and reliability are the cornerstones of the TASER Shockwave system.  Each unit contains a lithium battery pack that can be kept in a constant state of readiness via recharging from the control box. This feature ensures that no matter when called upon, the Shockwave system will deliver.  Combine these features with the ability to structurally mount Shockwave units and you now have the capability to project Area Denial from a secure location, such as your vehicle.

We are preparing to release pilot deployments of the Shockwave systems in late summer 2008 to select customers and a full release of the product to the field in the fourth quarter 2008.
